Trash Can Falls Clean Up: March 28th from 1:00-3:00pm. Meet out at the new canoe access parking lot by the bridge of HWY 321 and Old Watauga River Rd at 1pm. All supplies (gloves, bags, trash picker uppers) will be supplied. Please let me know you’re coming by emailing me or calling 828-264-3061.
Fruit Plant Sale: Orders must be placed and prepaid no later than Monday, March 23, 2015. Go to this website to find your order form.
Weed Wiper Workshop: April 16, 2015 from 5:30-7:30pm. Participants can receive pesticide credits and also build a weed wiper to take home and use this summer. Click here for more information and to register.
Rain Barrel Sale: Must order online by April 24th. Click here to order yours!!
They are $75. Made in the USA. The pick up for your rain barrel at the Watauga Agricultural Conference Center is scheduled for Friday May 1, 2015.
Operation Medicine Cabinet: is set for May 16th from 10-2pm at all Watauga County Food Lions, and Foscoe Fire Dept. Drop off any unused medicines during this time. For more information click here
Hazardous Household Waste Day: Set for May 16th from 9am to 2pm at the Watauga County landfill (336 Landfill Rd. Boone). Items accepted include: paint, household batteries, household cleaners, pesticides, oils, antifreeze, gasoline, propane tanks, lighter fluid, lab packs, oxidizers, florescent bulbs, and mercury. If you have any questions please contact the Sanitation Dept. at 828-264-5305.
RiverCourse 131: June 1-2, 2015, Registration now open. RC 131: Assessment & Identification of Riparian Vegetation - June 1-2, 2015 - Valle Crucis, NC. This two-day course will introduce students to vegetation assessment of riparian areas along streams that will potentially be restored. Existing riparian condition will be examined and discussed in both classroom and field settings. Topics will include stream bank stability from a vegetative perspective, evaluation of current plant inventory, invasive vegetation issues, and potential planting constraints. Identification of common riparian plants of North Carolina will also be discussed during field sessions. Students will be given handouts with information on how to identify individual riparian plants. 10 CEUs are approved by the NC Board of Landscape Architects; Course # 10037. 10.5 contact hours in Category 1-CF are approved by the Society of American Foresters. And the NCDA Pesticide Board has approved the course for 3 hours credit.
Watauga Riverfest: The 15th Annual Watauga Riverfest will be held on June 13th at Valle Crucis Community Park! Mark your calendars now and more details to come! Elkland Puppet Parade, Dunk Tank, 30+ exhibitors, live animals, games, music, food and loads of educational fun! (Please contact me if you’d like to volunteer!)
